Andy Griffith Show Guest Stars
By Bill Coleman
Part of the fun of watching "Andy Griffith Show" reruns is seeing the recognizable guest stars. In "Aunt Bee The Juror", Aunt Bee is the lone juror not so quick to convict a young Jack Nicholson. Barbara Eden was looking for a friendly town where she could make a living as a manicurist in the episode "The Manicurist." Jerry Van Dyke was "Banjo Playing Deputy" in the episode of the same name. This one is sad in a way because it was the last black and white episode. Alan Hale Jr., who went on to better things as the skipper of the S.S. Minnow, was dead set on marrying Thelma Lou, regardless of what Barnie thought about it in the episode "The Farmer Takes a Wife." Andy teaches Bill Bixby, the spoiled rich kid, a valuable lesson in "Bailey's Bad Boy." Here are some more guest stars that you might recognize and maybe remember from their episodes: Bob Denver Sterling Holloway Jackie Coogan Buddy Ebsen Denver Pyle Jesse White (The Maytag Repairman) Edgar Buchanan Rob Reiner Jamie Farr Ronnie Schell Teri Garr Arte Johnson |

This is fun information for any of us that watched the original as well as the reruns.
Very interesting! I hadn't thought much about it until I read this. I remember most of these episodes!
How far we have come from Mayberry. I am ready to go back anytime. When I did a search to check if Mayberry was spelled right in spite of the spell checker I learned that Mayberry was actually based on Andy Griffith's home town in North Carolina.
