Kayfabe - A Word Not in Most Dictionaries
By Bill Coleman
Kayfabe is a professional wrestling term that is used as an umbrella to shelter the illusion that professional wrestling is legit. The wrestling industry today has generally conceded to the rest of the work that their product is strictly staged entertainment, but even as recently as the early 1990's those who made their living from wrestling protected the secret with only rare exceptions. Some didn't even share the secret with members of their own family. There are very few remnants of kayfabe left in the wrestling industry. |
