Not Just Three Stooges
The Three Stooges began in 1925 as a part of vaudeville star Ted Healy's act. The Stooges were Moe and Shemp Howard. Latter, Larry Fine joined Healy - The Stooges became The Three Stooges. Shemp left Healy and was replaced by another Howard, brother Curly. Larry, Moe and Curly finally got fed up with Healy's mistreatment and in 1934 left to perform as The Three Stooges. Shemp rejoined the team when Curly suffered a stroke. Shemp died in 1955. Joe Besser replaced Shemp in 1956. In 1958, Besser left and Joe DeRita took his place. Larry suffered a stroke in 1970, and Emil Sitka was recruited to join the group. No movies were ever made and that was the end of the Stooges. |
