Three Most Valuable Autographs of the Still Living

By Bill Coleman

I have limited my list to three. There a lot of famous people who don't sign autographs, but I think it would be pretty much a guessing game after these three. Steve Jobs, for example, is said to be practically impossible, but what is demand? Madonna rarely signs, but I could probably come up with a list of another dozen that would equal her in demand and rarity. Now if it were 15 years ago, I would have Madonna as number four.

1. Neil Armstrong is probably at the top of everybody's list. It is an understatement to say that the twelve moonwalkers are an elite group. Neil Armstrong was the first moonwalker. He completely stopped signing in the middle nineties. There is tremendous demand for anything signed by Armstrong. Demand will only grow.

2. Tiger Woods. I don't know much about golf, but I do know that of all American athletes, Tiger Woods is the toughest autograph. His rise to to the top was swift and he didn't sign when he got there.

3. Paul McCartney. The Beatles and a billionaire to boot. Authentic autographs from Paul McCatney have been rare since the Beatles hit it big, which was a long time ago. There are plenty of fakes and some of them are believed to be genuine by the original owner. Autograph albums didn't always come from backstage with a genuine Beatle autograph. The Beatles were only approachable for a very short window - and most of that window they weren't yet THE BEATLES.

Very interesting! I am wondering how you came up with that list.
